2016-2017 School Year
I am so excited to be starting my 4th year as a school counselor at QCE! I am looking forward to seeing all of our returning Gators and meeting all of our new Gators!
This year, my whole class lessons will be on a little bit of a different schedule. Instead of going into the K-2 classes once every rotation and the 3-5 classes only by sign up, I will be going into ALL of the classrooms once a month. Although the teacher's have the opportunity to choose a specific lesson for their class, I am planning on the following lessons unless they tell me otherwise:
Lesson 1: Meet the Counselor
Lesson 2: Bullying
Lesson 3: Being Thankful
Lesson 4: Integrity
Lesson 5: Being a Good Friend
Lesson 6: How to Be a Good Citizen
Lesson 7: Teacher Choice
Super Kids will continue this year. It will take place every Wednesday from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. (1-2 at 1:00 and 3-5 at 1:30). This is a half hour long celebration for students who have had a "super" week at school! They are selected by their teachers and they will receive an award with $5 in gator bucks along with a special treat (usually popcorn or ice cream) and some time to play games outside!
We will also continue to have Friday Family Fun Night Bags. These bags go home every Friday with a family DVD, a couple of books, and a treat for the family to enjoy. I just ask that the movie, bag, and books are returned on Monday!
I will be in charge of Student Council this year. This is a great opportunity for 4th and 5th grade students to learn and demonstrate leadership skills around our school. Student Council will be in charge of introducing new students to our school by giving them a tour of all of the important areas around the school and taking them to their classroom. We will have a mid-year social for all of our new students to attend. Student Council will run various donation collections throughout the year. I am so excited to lead this very special program for QCE!
Girls on the Run will take place again in the Spring for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls. This program teaches girls various character lessons that are important for any girl to know (ie: how to stand up for yourself, being a good friend, how to avoid gossip, etc.) while incorporating healthy living. The program is a 10 week program and we meet twice a week (usually Tuesday and Thursday). At the end of the program, the girls will run a 5K in Jacksonville. If your daughter is interested in being on our Girls on the Run team, be on the lookout for information in January 2017.
I will be introducing Lunch Bunch this year. This will replace any small groups that I have done in the past. I will meet with 6 students from each grade level approximately once a month during their lunch time. The students will be chosen by their teachers based on the lesson that will be presented during that session. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to contact me.
As always, if you have any questions regarding the school counseling program, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 910-326-5115. Looking forward to another great year at QCE!! GO Gators!!
